I understand that starting a new project with a photographer can be rather daunting. Most businesses have little experience working with photographers and those that do will find each photographer has their own process.

To help you gain a better understanding of my workflow and timeline I have put together this page.

First contact.

Regardless of how you found Blank Canvas Ink, it is valuable to first organise a vmeeting, usually via telephone. This allows me to gauge the scope of the work and get a preliminary understanding of the task. It is also an opportunity for you to have any questions answered.

Photo brief/Client questionnaire.

It is helpful for clients to write a brief beforehand, this is a rough plan of the work that you believe to be required.

If you haven’t written a photography brief, I will forward you a questionnaire. Your answers to this will allow me to ascertain, in writing, exactly what it is that you need out of the photography campaign.

Proposal.

Using your answers from the questionnaire, photo brief, our conversations over the phone and some desktop research into your brand and competitors I will put together a proposal.

Proposals will of course vary depending on the needs of the project. However, This will be the first opportunity for you to see options for the direction of the shoot. To understand the reasons behind some creative decisions. Get a feel for the final delivery.

Most importantly clients can make comments on the proposal to ensure that what they are delivered is exactly what they want.

Proposal Amends and confirmation.

After taking comments on the proposal, I will make any amendments necessary and forward the final document back to yourself.

Once the details are agreed upon I will forward you an agreement for the work.

Once returned I will begin to organise all the shoot. Depending on the requirements for the shoot this includes:

  • Sourcing talent.

  • Sourcing props/backdrops.

  • Finding a suitable location.

  • Equipment rental.

  • Shoot date.

Once all is in order I will come back to you to confirm all of the resources for the shoot.

The shoot.

This will take place with the finalised photography proposal guiding the shoot.

This will take place either in my studio, at a shoot location, at your place of work or combination of these. Clients are welcome to attend and oversee the shoot to ensure that they are happy with the direction of the photography is as imagined.

Edit.

Most photography campaigns will require some form of editing and manipulation to the photos. The length of time of this will depend on the scale of work required.

First delivery.

The photographs will be delivered to the client in a PDF at first, this will allow the client to look through the images and make any comments on changes to be made.

Any final edits to the imagery will be made.

Final delivery.

Once amendments to images are made the final deliverables will be released and an invoice issued. The deliverables will include:

  • Web optimised imagery.

  • Print optimised imagery (if necessary).

  • Image licence.

Aftercare.

I strongly believe that customer service is essential to photography. Therefore I guarantee lifetime aftercare to all my clients as part of the package. If you need different files sizes or formats no problem. If you lose the files, I will always have copies saved to send you. Even if you require some small amendments in the future to the photographs I will provide.
